Frame Lock
She Said: One afternoon we stopped by Gear Driven Performance in Mauston, WI, (https://geardrivenperformance.com/ ) to check out a product that the owner, Randy Winchel sells in his shop called Frame Lock. I had heard about Frame Lock and thought it was too good to be true, so I had to see it for myself. The concept behind Frame Lock is that a motorcycle can be loaded on a trailer by one person, and can be hauled without the use of straps or tie-downs that bind the suspension of the motorcycle.
He Said: Trailers are for boats! But, if you have to trailer your prized bike this is the way to do it.
She Said: When we got there, Randy had two motorcycles already loaded on a Slick Tilt trailer with the Frame Lock. Randy bet me that he could load and unload one of the motorcycles with the Frame Lock in less time that it would take me to get the tie down straps ready. I had never used tie down straps before, and of course they were all tangled, as they usually are when you really need them! Randy was right…. he pulled the pin out of the rod that attaches the bike to the trailer, slid the rod out of the Frame Lock, backed the bike off of the trailer, pushed the bike back on the trailer, and slid the Frame Lock back into place before I had even gotten one strap ready to go
He Said: You do have to bolt on the bottom piece; you will have that done before your buddy drinks even 1 of your beers. It comes off when you are ready to ride even faster.
She Said: So, I hopped on a bike and tried it myself. All it takes to get the bike in place is to get the eyes that the rod goes through lined up and slide the rod through. Randy showed me that the trick if the rod doesn’t want to slide right into place is to wiggle the bike back and forth a bit and it goes right in. I couldn’t believe how easy it was!
He Said: I tried it also and this is way better than any time I have had to help strap a bike down.
She Said: I then thought back to a story a friend told me about how he had trailered his motorcycle on vacation one time, and had it secured with tie downs inside an enclosed trailer. When he got to the motel, his wife went to the room and he went to the trailer to unload his bike. He undid the wrong strap first, and the bike tipped over on him and pinned him to the side of the trailer. So, there he was, stuck until his wife came out to look for him. Had he used Frame Lock, he would have had that bike unloaded with no trouble at all and would have had more time to enjoy the motel room with his wife!
He Said: Hmmm, honey time or spending the weekend complaining about bruises and dents to your bike….. Easy decision here!
She Said: I have never put my bike on a trailer, but have many times observed others loading a motorcycle on a trailer, using tie downs. It usually ends up being a source of entertainment…..how many bikers does it take to load a motorcycle on a trailer?? Only one when you use Frame Lock!
He Said: Checkout Randy’s Gear Driven Performance ad to get more details about getting yourself set up with a Frame Lock or Slick Tilt Trailer. If you have to trailer do it the best way possible!!!
