Police Security 99490 Tract Tact Flashlgiht 350 Lumen with UV
Fred: I was looking for a flashlight to put in our go bag. Our go bag is primarily for day trips that might need some support items. Flashlight, knife, bandaids, matches, batteries, paper & pen and maybe some snacks.
This flashlight caught my attention because it had features I was looking for and fit in the dry case I’m using for our go bag. This light has high, low, strobe, red and UV. It also uses 2 AA batteries so you can just change them out without having to look for somewhere to charge it. And it is waterproof.
High and low beam should be obvious what they are for. The strobe mode has a couple of uses. It can be used for signaling or getting someone’s attention. This one does not have S.O.S. mode, just strobe. You can also use strobe to blind or confuse a would be attacker. The red light can be very useful as well. Red light is not as harsh on our eyes therefore we don’t blind people near us. To some extent you can see better with red light since your eyes don’t adjust as much as they do to a white light. You can also use red to signal others. The UV can be used for tracking blood, looking for animal urine, some other bodily fluids and even insects. People often use UV to check for scorpions. We don’t have scorpions in Wisconsin so I probably won’t be testing that feature anytime soon.
Why did I want a flashlight in this day and age to use batteries instead of being rechargeable? The answer is simple: if we are out in the woods or stuck in a storm somewhere and the rechargeable batteries go dead you are out of luck unless you have a charger handy. Even then you have to wait for it to charge up. It is much easier to carry some extra batteries or if you can buy some. Extra batteries is something I would carry in our go bag.
This light is about 1.5″ x 6.5″ and also has a pocket clip making it easy to stow until needed.
One thing that would make this flashlight better would be a lanyard or a hole to attach a lanyard. I’m sure I can fabricate a lanyard to it without much work.
After using it for a while I’ll come back and update this.
